Princeton Symphony Orchestra presents the Puget Sound Piano Trio

On Wednesday, April 24 at 7:30 pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents PSO principal cellist Alistair MacRae and musicians violinist Maria Sampen and pianist Ronaldo Rolim who make up the Puget Sound Piano Trio. The Trio is the ensemble-in-residence at University of Puget Sound School of Music in Tacoma, WA. The concert takes place at Trinity Church. On the program are Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio in E Major, Hob.XV/28, Miguel Del Aguila’s Barroqueada, Op.128, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C Minor, Op.66.

Over its rich four-decade history, the Puget Sound Piano Trio has presented hundreds of concerts in venues throughout the United States. Members Maria Sampen, violin, Alistair MacRae, cello, and Ronaldo Rolim, piano bring distinguished musical backgrounds and a rich variety of professional experiences to their work as an ensemble. The Puget Sound Piano Trio is equally at home performing repertoire from the standard classical canon and hot-off-the-press works of living composers. In 2023, the Trio gave the West Coast premiere of Miguel del Aguila’s Barroqueada, a neo-Baroque suite infused with Latin-American dances. This became the seed of a program entirely dedicated to Latin-American music for the 2023-24 season, including 21st-century works by Gabriela Ortiz and Alejandro Cardona. The Trio can be heard on the 2020 Navona Records recording Drift, featuring Tianyi Wang’s trio Dark Blessing.

Tickets for the chamber concert at Trinity Church are $45 per person, youths 5-17 receive a 50% discount with an adult purchase. Visit the Princeton Symphony Orchestra website at princetonsymphony.org or call 609-497-0020.
